{"id":1106,"date":"2023-11-22T14:33:43","date_gmt":"2023-11-22T14:33:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=1106"},"modified":"2023-11-22T16:52:21","modified_gmt":"2023-11-22T16:52:21","slug":"senet-magazine-co-creator-dan-jolin-has-won-a-british-society-of-magazine-editors-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/22\/senet-magazine-co-creator-dan-jolin-has-won-a-british-society-of-magazine-editors-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Senet magazine co-creator Dan Jolin has won a British Society of Magazine Editors award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dan Jolin, the co-creator of board gaming&#8217;s most beautiful magazine, <a href=\"https:\/\/senetmagazine.com\/\">Senet<\/a>, has won a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsme.com\/awards\">British Society of Magazine Editors award<\/a> for his work on the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jolin won Editor of the Year \u2013 Independent in this year\u2019s BSME Awards, beating competition from editors of magazines including Rugby Journal and Slimming World.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from BSME accompanying the announcement said, &#8220;On a strong shortlist, this editor shone out &#8211; not least because he also sells ad space. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The magazine he dreamed up is distinctive, stylish and elegant, and it makes you want to read all about board games.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Senet-3-950x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1107\" width=\"420\" height=\"453\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Senet-3-950x1024.jpeg 950w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Senet-3-278x300.jpeg 278w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Senet-3-768x828.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Senet-3-1425x1536.jpeg 1425w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Senet-3.jpeg 1781w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jolin, the former reviews and features editor of British film magazine\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.empireonline.com\/\">Empire<\/a>, launched Senet almost four years ago alongside art director James Hunter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hunter was nominated for this year&#8217;s BSME Art Director of the Year \u2013 Independent award, a year after winning the gong for Senet in the Art Director of the Year \u2013 Consumer category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jolin told BoardGameWire, &#8220;Senet is a passion project, and I love being part of the community of readers and contributors we\u2019ve built over the past four years, so really editing the magazine is a reward in itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;That said, to receive the recognition of the British Society of Magazine Editors means a huge amount to me, especially when all the other magazines in my category were so strong!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jolin took to Twitter yesterday to celebrate his win, saying, &#8220;Obviously an editor is nothing without a great art director (living legend @jameshuntereu), a fantastic team of writers &amp; illustrators and an amazing, lovely, beautiful community of readers.
