{"id":2291,"date":"2024-06-05T21:48:58","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T20:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=2291"},"modified":"2024-06-05T22:08:13","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T21:08:13","slug":"paizos-workers-union-two-tabletop-games-conventions-and-a-ttrpg-charity-bundle-for-trans-rights-are-all-finalists-for-this-years-diana-jones-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/05\/paizos-workers-union-two-tabletop-games-conventions-and-a-ttrpg-charity-bundle-for-trans-rights-are-all-finalists-for-this-years-diana-jones-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Paizo&#8217;s workers union, two tabletop games conventions and a TTRPG charity bundle for trans rights are all finalists for this year&#8217;s Diana Jones Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tabletop gaming&#8217;s most eclectic prize, The Diana Jones Award, has revealed the five finalists for its annual prize, which it believes best exemplifies excellence in the field of gaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two tabletop gaming conventions, Fastaval and Adepticon, are among the finalists this year, alongside board game designer Ami Baio, a workers union at roleplaying game maker Paizo, and a TTRPG charity bundle focused on trans rights in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"695\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Ami-Baio-695x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2296\" style=\"width:212px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Ami-Baio-695x1024.jpg 695w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Ami-Baio-204x300.jpg 204w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Ami-Baio-768x1132.jpg 768w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Ami-Baio.jpg 770w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 695px) 100vw, 695px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Board game designer Ami Baio<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Baio, the owner of <a href=\"https:\/\/pinktigergames.com\/\">Pink Tiger Games<\/a>, designs games which exude positivity, are quick to learn and aim to foster empathy and compassion while focusing on players&#8217; stories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Diana Jones Award committee said, &#8220;Players, even when they are strangers, are often brought to tears of joy or nostalgia through her carefully crafted card games. In our current world, Ami\u2019s games are more important and necessary than ever.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The committee also named Danish board game and RPG convention <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fastaval.dk\/en\/\">Fastaval<\/a> among the finalists, praising its &#8220;delightfully eccentric culture and a pervasively joyful culture of play&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It added that Fastaval had birthed a distinctive genre of one-shot-scenario roleplaying games &#8211; Danish Freeform &#8211; which have had a growing influence on European and North American design and play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellow convention <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adepticon.org\/\">Adepticon<\/a> is also a finalist, hot on the heels of <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/17\/adepticon-moves-out-of-illinois-after-20-attendance-jump-this-year\/\">its decision to move out of its long-time home of Illinois<\/a> after its attendance jumped 20% this year to about 8,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diana Jones called Adepticon &#8220;the largest and most energized wargaming convention in the world&#8221;. It said the miniatures-focused con, which has been running since 2003, concentrates on attendee interaction, from basic painting lessons to full sculpting classes and everything in between, as well as supporting multiple charitable causes &#8211; some created in honour of past attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joining those nominess as a Diana Jones Award finalist this year is <a href=\"https:\/\/itch.io\/b\/1753\/ttrpgs-for-trans-rights-in-florida\">TTRPGs for Trans Rights in Florida<\/a>, a charity bundle of more than 500 items organised by Rue Dickey, which raised over $280,000 for trans rights causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Diana Jones committee said, &#8220;This was another monumental show of force from our industry spaces \u2014 following on from 2022\u2019s TTRPGs for Trans Rights in Texas \u2014 directed by strong leadership and displaying passion and love for the trans community.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"996\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/United-Paizo-Workers-e1717620874862-1024x996.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2298\" style=\"width:398px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/United-Paizo-Workers-e1717620874862-1024x996.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/United-Paizo-Workers-e1717620874862-300x292.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/United-Paizo-Workers-e1717620874862-768x747.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/United-Paizo-Workers-e1717620874862.jpeg 1062w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The fifth finalist for 2024 is <a href=\"https:\/\/unitedpaizoworkers.org\/\">United Paizo Workers<\/a>, a first-of-its-kind workers union in tabletop RPGs.
