{"id":2473,"date":"2024-06-27T13:27:20","date_gmt":"2024-06-27T12:27:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=2473"},"modified":"2024-06-27T13:56:15","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T12:56:15","slug":"harmonies-surges-to-top-spot-for-most-new-owners-in-may-sky-team-continues-to-soar-bgg-stats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/27\/harmonies-surges-to-top-spot-for-most-new-owners-in-may-sky-team-continues-to-soar-bgg-stats\/","title":{"rendered":"Harmonies surges to top spot for most new owners in May, Sky Team continues to soar | BGG Stats"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Abstract lightweight tile-laying game <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/414317\/harmonies\">Harmonies<\/a> has powered to the top of the charts for the number of BGG users adding new games to their collections in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 3,500 users said they picked up the game last month, according to data collected by BGG user and data visualiser&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/user\/Pard\">Igor Larchenko<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While that does not represent overall sales of games across the month, it acts as a useful bellwether for the sales and popularity of releases within the hobby gaming community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harmonies, designed by Johan Benvenuto and published by Libellud, has already put on a strong showing in April, sitting in second place that month with 1,917 new owners on BGG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Co-operative aeroplane landing game <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?s=sky+team\">Sky Team<\/a> from Luc Remond also showed continued sales popularity, rising from third place (+1,792 owners) in April to second spot in May (+2,086).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"345\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Sky-Team.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2475\" style=\"width:500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Sky-Team.png 345w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Sky-Team-297x300.png 297w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sky Team &#8212; Photo Credit: Hachette Board Games USA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sky Team has inevitably benefited from <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/15\/hegemony-lives-up-to-its-name-by-dominating-latest-golden-geek-awards\/\">winning a pair of Golden Geek Awards<\/a> in mid-May, and has also <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/13\/sky-team-captain-flip-in-the-footsteps-of-darwin-set-for-sales-boost-after-being-unveiled-as-this-years-spiel-des-jahres-award-nominees\/\">since been named one of the three finalist for this year&#8217;s Spiel des Jahres<\/a> &#8211; widely considered the biggest award in board gaming &#8211; although the impact of that won&#8217;t be felt until the June rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The game is published by Scorpion Masque, Hachette Board Games USA, Kosmos and 999 Games, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>April&#8217;s standout success <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?s=wyrmspan\">Wyrmspan<\/a>, designed by Connie Vogelmann, fell from top spot to third place, with new owners falling from an impressive 3,246 to a still very respectable 1,904 month-on-month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dragon-themed successor to Stonemaier Games\u2019 bestselling board game&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/15\/wingspan-tops-boardgamegeek-new-owner-charts-for-2023-earth-only-game-from-last-year-to-break-top-10\/\">Wingspan<\/a> had <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/06\/wyrmspan-soars-to-top-of-new-owner-rankings-for-february-stonesaga-most-wishlisted-bgg-stats\/\">also topped the charts for most new owners in February<\/a> after a huge launch campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/tag\/heat-pedal-to-the-metal\/\">Heat: Pedal to the Metal<\/a>, a hand-management-focused motor racing game set in the 1960s, continues to underscore its possible evergreen nature by moving up the rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The game, published by Asmodee studio Days of Wonder, quickly went out of stock after its November 2022 release was followed by a plethora of positive reviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heat moved up from 10th spot in February (+1,465) to 8th spot in April (+1,427), and picked up 1,809 new owners on BGG in May to finish the month in 5th place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The game <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/05\/earth-clings-on-with-most-new-owners-in-may-despite-heat-pedal-to-the-metal-challenge-bgg-stats\/\">was in second spot in the BGG new owner charts in May 2023<\/a>, having been added by more than 2,900 BGG users that month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heat&#8217;s first expansion, Heavy Rain expansion, also performed well in the May new owner charts, being added by 1,463 users to finish in 9th spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Sand-Devir-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2476\" style=\"width:500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Sand-Devir-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Sand-Devir-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Sand-Devir-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Sand-Devir-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Sand-Devir.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sand &#8212; Photo Credit: Devir<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Harmonies was also involved in a tussle for top spot on the BGG &#8216;most wishlisted&#8217; chart, eventually just losing out to Devir&#8217;s desert traveler-themed pick-up-and-deliver game <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/402669\/sand\">Sand<\/a>, designed by Ariel Di Costanzo and Javier Pelizzari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sand was added to 1,188 BGG user wishlists in May, Harmonies was added to 1,133, and third-placed <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/417197\/rebirth\">Rebirth<\/a> &#8211; the new tile-laying game from Reiner Knizia published by Mighty Boards &#8211; was added to 946.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/407343\/ironwood\">Ironwood<\/a>, an asymmetric card-based tactics game from Mindclash, finished in fourth spot on the wishlist chart, and has potential to rise further next month thanks to praise from major review site Shut Up &amp;
