Heat: Pedal to the Metal the deluxe version of Cat in the Box both came away with a pair of winners trophies at BoardGameGeek<\/a>‘s 17th annual Golden Geek Awards, which are voted on by users of the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trick-taking game Cat in the Box beat off stiff competition from games including Heat and Splendor Duel to win Light Game of the Year, and was also crowned Best Innovative Game – winning both the categories it was nominated in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heat, a hand-management-focused motor racing games set in the 1960s, triumphed in two of its four nominated categories, coming out on top as Medium Game of the Year and Best Thematic Game, and also finishing as a runner-up to Cat in the Box as Best Innovative Game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lavish hidden roles game Blood on the Clocktower was nominated in five separate categories<\/a>, but only managed to pick up a runner-up prize for Best Party Game<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second edition of John Company claimed two runner-up spots out of its four nominations, while fellow quadruple nominee Return to Dark Tower won Best Cooperative Game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dune Imperium: Rise of Ix beat the game’s other expansion, Immortality, to win Best Expansion, and Wonderland’s War managed to grab a trio of runner-up prizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carnegie won Best Heavy Game, beating off strong competition from John Company, Great Western Trail: Argentina and Revive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heat released to great acclaim last year, quickly selling out in its initial print run in the US. The game rose into the BGG Top 100 last week, and currently sits at the number 99 spot with an 8.2 rating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
