{"id":2958,"date":"2024-09-10T22:42:42","date_gmt":"2024-09-10T21:42:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=2958"},"modified":"2024-09-10T23:16:24","modified_gmt":"2024-09-10T22:16:24","slug":"invincible-the-card-game-is-coming-as-indie-boards-cards-signs-multi-year-licensing-deal-with-skybound-tabletop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/10\/invincible-the-card-game-is-coming-as-indie-boards-cards-signs-multi-year-licensing-deal-with-skybound-tabletop\/","title":{"rendered":"Invincible: The Card Game is coming to Kickstarter as Indie Boards &amp; Cards signs multi-year licensing deal with Skybound Tabletop"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Coup and The Resistance publisher <a href=\"https:\/\/indieboardsandcards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Indie Boards &amp; Cards<\/a> has picked up the rights to make a series of co-op deckbuilding games based on the Invincible superhero franchise, after signing a multi-year licensing deal with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skybound.com\/games\/tabletop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Skybound Tabletop<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IBC will base the games on its <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/191189\/aeons-end\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Aeon\u2019s End<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/352179\/astro-knights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Astro Knights<\/a> game systems, with the first in the series &#8211; Invincible: The Card Game &#8211; due to launch onto Kickstarter on October 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Invincible has gone from strength to strength in recent years, having begun life in 2003 as a comic series written by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His company Skybound Entertainment expanded the setting into TV in 2021 through an Amazon Prime Video series, which has so far been renewed to cover four seasons, while a crowdfund for a AAA video game based on Invincible <a href=\"https:\/\/republic.com\/skyboundcf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">raised more than $680,000 earlier this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reaching that total for Invincible: The Card Game would give IBC the biggest crowdfund in its 12-year history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"748\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Invincible-cards-1024x748.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2962\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Invincible-cards-1024x748.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Invincible-cards-300x219.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Invincible-cards-768x561.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Invincible-cards-1536x1122.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Invincible-cards.jpeg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The company previously raised just over $673,000 for its largest Kickstarter project to date, with over 5,800 people backing Aeon&#8217;s End: Legacy of Gravehold in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its sister business Stronghold Games, which IBC merged with in 2018, has several $1bn-plus Kickstarter projects under its belt, including $2.7m for the Terraforming Mars Big Box in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Skybound has strong form when it comes to powerful Kickstarter campaigns, having raised more than $3.5m for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/cyanideandhappiness\/trial-by-trolley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Trial by Trolley<\/a>, a party game based on the Cyanide and Happiness webcomic, in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its other previous campaigns include Valor &amp; Villainy crowdfunds for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/skyboundgames\/valor-and-villainy-minions-of-mordak\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Minions of Mordak<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/skyboundgames\/valor-and-villainy-lludwiks-labyrinth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Lludwik&#8217;s Labyrinth<\/a>, which raised over $310,000 and more than $550,000 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IBC deal is not Skybound&#8217;s first foray in bringing Invincible to the tabletop. The company teamed with Mantic Games for <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/396551\/invincible-the-dice-game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Invincible: The Dice Game<\/a> last year, and released <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/396251\/invincible-the-hero-building-game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Invincible: The Hero-Building Game<\/a> in July in partnership with Dire Wolf Digital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Garima Sharma, VP of licensing at Skybound Entertainment, said, &#8220;We are committed to expanding the Invincible franchise through unique product offerings and we\u2019re so excited to work with Indie Boards &amp;
