{"id":3403,"date":"2024-11-27T14:09:03","date_gmt":"2024-11-27T14:09:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=3403"},"modified":"2024-11-28T14:22:05","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T14:22:05","slug":"the-white-castle-forest-shuffle-seal-wins-in-this-years-gouden-ludo-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/11\/27\/the-white-castle-forest-shuffle-seal-wins-in-this-years-gouden-ludo-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"The White Castle, Forest Shuffle seal wins in this year&#8217;s Gouden Ludo awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/391163\/forest-shuffle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Forest Shuffle<\/a>\u00a0has added to its <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/10\/08\/forest-shuffle-scoops-germans-biggest-community-voted-board-game-award-sky-team-and-white-castle-also-impress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">triumph in the German language Deutscher Spiele Preis last month<\/a> by winning the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/goudenludo.be\/\">Gouden Ludo<\/a>\u00a0Flemish family game of the year award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The win means Forest Shuffle has also done the double of Dutch language awards this year, having already scooped the 2024 Nederlandse Spellenprijs for best family game &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2023\/12\/06\/woodcraft-wandering-towers-take-home-flemish-game-of-the-year-prizes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">replicating the success of double award winner The Wandering Towers last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forest Shuffle has been nominated for a string of awards since its release last year, including being \u2018recommended\u2019 in the 2024 Kennerspiel des Jahres contest and picking up nominations for Golden Geek Medium Game of the Year and Board Game Quest\u2019s Best Card Game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellow multi-award nominee <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/371942\/the-white-castle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">The White Castle<\/a> scooped the expert game gong in the 2024 Gouden Ludo, having been up against nominees <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/281259\/the-isle-of-cats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">The Isle of Cats<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/363369\/starship-captains\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Starship Captains<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That trio fought of competition from more than 20 submitted entrants this year, including Wyrmspan, Age of Innovation and Spirit Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/392023\/mycelia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Mycelia<\/a>, published by Ravensburger, and <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/381297\/unmatched-adventures-tales-to-amaze\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Unmatched Adventures: Tales to Amaze<\/a>, published by White Goblin Games in Flemish, were nominated alongside Forest Shuffle for the family game section of the awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 40 titles duked it out for nominations in that category, including popular names such as Harmonies, Quacks of Quedlinberg: Duel and Sea Salt &amp; Paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White Castle&#8217;s win is the first Gouden Ludo award for Dutch publisher 999 Games since 2020, when it triumphed with <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/284083\/the-crew-the-quest-for-planet-nine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">The Crew: The Quest for Planet Nine<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forest Shuffle publisher <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?s=asmodee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Asmodee<\/a> last won a Gouden Ludo in 2018 with Azul, having previously been successful with Colt Express in 2015 and 7 Wonders in 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gouden Ludo has been awarded each year since 2009, when Matt Leacock\u2019s Pandemic became the first to win the prize.
