{"id":3522,"date":"2024-12-18T16:19:42","date_gmt":"2024-12-18T16:19:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=3522"},"modified":"2024-12-18T17:19:06","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T17:19:06","slug":"expert-level-eurogame-award-diamant-dor-unveils-civolution-seti-among-2025-finalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/12\/18\/expert-level-eurogame-award-diamant-dor-unveils-civolution-seti-among-2025-finalists\/","title":{"rendered":"Expert-level eurogame award Diamant d&#8217;Or unveils Civolution, SETI among 2025 finalists"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Diamant d&#8217;Or, a prize launched almost a decade ago to celebrate complex eurogames being overlooked by more mainstream board game awards, has unveiled its eight finalists for 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stefen Feld design <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/400602\/civolution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Civolution<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/czechgames.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Czech Games Edition<\/a>&#8216;s high profile release <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/418059\/seti-search-for-extraterrestrial-intelligence\">S<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/418059\/seti-search-for-extraterrestrial-intelligence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">E<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/418059\/seti-search-for-extraterrestrial-intelligence\">TI<\/a> and Sigmund Freud-themed eurogame&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/329500\/unconscious-mind\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Unconscious Mind<\/a>, from Cyprus-based Fantasia Games, are among titles in the running for this year&#8217;s award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They face competition from Vital Lacerda&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/347305\/inventions-evolution-of-ideas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Inventions: Evolution of Ideas<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/386368\/ezra-and-nehemiah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Ezra and Nehemiah<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/garphill.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Garphill Games<\/a>, Germ\u00e1n Mill\u00e1n design <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/404431\/men-nefer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Men-Nefer<\/a>, Stan Kordonskiy&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/423401\/minos-dawn-of-the-bronze-age\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Minos: Dawn of the Bronze Age<\/a> and David Bernal&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/402663\/salton-sea\">Salton Sea<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The French award focuses on new, expert-level eurogame releases from the previous 12 months which have a high replayability, especially those &#8220;whose format does not always allow them to apply for one of the many other current awards&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Civolution designer Feld won the award two years ago with his citybuilding design <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/29223\/marrakech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Marrakesh<\/a>, while Lacerda previously came second in 2018 with <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/161533\/lisboa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Lisboa<\/a>, and third in the inaugural Diamant d&#8217;Or in 2015\/16 with <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/125153\/the-gallerist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">The Gallerist<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year&#8217;s top prize was won by Simone Luciani and&nbsp;Nestore Mangone&#8217;s worker placement game <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/322289\/darwins-journey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Darwin&#8217;s Journey<\/a>, with <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/396790\/nucleum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Nucleum<\/a> finishing in second place and <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/337627\/voidfall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Voidfall<\/a> in third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Diamant d&#8217;Or jury of board game players whittles down the final eight from about 50 entries each year.
