of Maple Games to publish heavier titles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Australian board game publisher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grailgames.games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Grail Games<\/a> has teamed up with the new incarnation of Canada&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maple-games.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Maple Games<\/a> as an outlet for its heavier titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maple has been renamed <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgamepublisher\/58602\/frost-bite-games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Frost Bite Games<\/a> under the partnership, which sees Grail founder David Harding join forces with former Maple studio head Billy Chandler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harding will be production director at the rebranded publisher, while Chandler will work as its creative director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frost Bite will be the new home of the <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/63628\/the-manhattan-project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Manhattan Project<\/a> family of games &#8211; which Grail bought from <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgamepublisher\/13433\/minion-games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Minion Games<\/a> in 2021 following the death of Minion&#8217;s founder James Mathe &#8211; as well as other heavier titles, while Grail will focus on small games and mid-weight strategy titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"884\" height=\"884\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Manhattan-Project-War-Machine-Grail-Games.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3727\" style=\"width:505px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Manhattan-Project-War-Machine-Grail-Games.jpg 884w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Manhattan-Project-War-Machine-Grail-Games-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Manhattan-Project-War-Machine-Grail-Games-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Manhattan-Project-War-Machine-Grail-Games-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 884px) 100vw, 884px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Manhattan Project: War Machine by Grail Games<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The move comes three months after Grail signed a partnership deal with Matagot to take on publication of the French board game company&#8217;s eurogames and strategic card games, after <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/10\/16\/matagot-stops-publishing-heavier-games-like-kemet-inis-shifts-focus-to-family-and-childrens-titles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Matagot decided to focus the company\u2019s future on the family, beginner and children\u2019s games market<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frost Bite will now take on responsibility for the upcoming Kickstarter for a new edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/176734\/the-manhattan-project-energy-empire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">The Manhattan Project: Energy Empire<\/a>, which is set to launch its campaign on February 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/thread\/3449756\/big-news-for-mpee-as-we-welcome-frost-bite-games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Harding said<\/a> that under the partnership, Grail Games would itself take on some upcoming releases from Maple that are &#8220;more Grail&#8217;s &#8216;style'&#8221;, including <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/435261\/valedictorian\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Valedictorian<\/a>, from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/199561\/sagrada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Sagrada<\/a>&nbsp;co-designer Adrian Adamescu and <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/419125\/sparks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Sparks<\/a> co-creator Florin Purluca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maple was launched in 2018 by former Fantasy Flight Games graphic designer Peter Wocken and ex-Bezier Games developer and prolific board game designer Daryl Andrews &#8211; the co-designer of Sagrada alongside Adamescu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The publisher raised almost C$36,000 for its debut Kickstarter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/maple-games\/dragon-boats-of-the-four-seas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Dragon Boats of the Four Seas<\/a>, and about C$30,000 for follow-up title <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/maple-games\/imagineers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Imagineers<\/a> that same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrews was let go as president of the company in April 2019, in the same week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/maple-games\/folding-space\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">the publisher&#8217;s crowdfunding campaign for Folding Space was suspended by Kickstarter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wocken left the company a month later according to his LinkedIn page, and was subsequently brought on board by Pandasaurus Games as its head of graphic design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"766\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Fjords-Grail-Games-766x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3726\" style=\"width:297px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Fjords-Grail-Games-766x1024.jpg 766w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Fjords-Grail-Games-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Fjords-Grail-Games-768x1027.jpg 768w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Fjords-Grail-Games-1149x1536.jpg 1149w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Fjords-Grail-Games.jpg 1162w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 766px) 100vw, 766px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fjords by Grail Games<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While the Folding Space project never rematerialised, Maple went on to raise about $25,000 for Octopus&#8217;s Garden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/maple-games\/octopuss-garden-a-beautiful-game-beneath-the-sea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">through a Kickstarter in 2021<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/maple-games\/expedition-northwest-passage-hms-terror-edition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">about $40,000 for Expedition: Northwest Passage &#8211;
