{"id":4160,"date":"2025-04-09T15:35:14","date_gmt":"2025-04-09T14:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=4160"},"modified":"2025-04-09T16:30:02","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T15:30:02","slug":"americas-answer-to-the-spiel-des-jahres-the-american-tabletop-awards-unveils-2025-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/09\/americas-answer-to-the-spiel-des-jahres-the-american-tabletop-awards-unveils-2025-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"America&#8217;s answer to the Spiel des Jahres, the American Tabletop Awards, unveils 2025 winners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The American Tabletop Awards, an awards scheme launched six years ago with the aim of being the US equivalent of Germany&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/tag\/spiel-des-jahres\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Spiel des Jahres<\/a>, has revealed its 2025 winners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/393325\/captain-flip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Captain Flip<\/a>, which was nominated for last year&#8217;s Spiel des Jahres award, triumphed in ATTA&#8217;s Early Gamers award category this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The game, designed by Paolo Mori and Remo Conzadori, <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/27\/odin-wins-this-years-as-dor-frances-biggest-board-gaming-award-while-kutna-hora-takes-expert-game-prize\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">was also a nominee in this year&#8217;s French game of the year award<\/a>, the As d&#8217;Or, <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/17\/harmonies-captain-flip-triumph-in-this-years-swiss-gamers-award-castle-combo-seals-two-finalist-spots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">won the family category of the 2024 Swiss Gamers Award<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/04\/harmonies-darwins-journey-splendor-duel-among-winners-in-this-years-boardgamearena-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">narrowly lost out in this year BoardGameArena awards to Castle Combo in the Casual Game category<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highly regarded board game designer Kory Heath, who died in November last year, was celebrated in this year&#8217;s ATTA&#8217;s through his game <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/411567\/the-gang\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">The Gang<\/a>, a co-design with John Cooper, which won the Casual Games award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the Gang, Heath was best known for his inductive logic game Zendo, a Mensa Select Award winner from 2005. BoardGameGeek&#8217;s Eric Martin <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/blog\/1\/blogpost\/167622\/in-memoriam-kory-heath\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">published an extended tribute to Heath and his design work here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"765\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fromage-1-1024x765.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4165\" style=\"width:431px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fromage-1-1024x765.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fromage-1-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fromage-1-768x574.jpg 768w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fromage-1.jpg 1247w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fromage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/368173\/lets-go-to-japan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Let\u2019s Go! To Japan<\/a>, designed by Josh Wood and published by Alderac Entertainment Group, won this year&#8217;s Strategy Games award at the ATTAs, while Matthew O\u2019Malley and Ben Rosset&#8217;s design <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/384213\/fromage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Fromage<\/a> was victorious in the Complex Games category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ATTAs are voted on by members of the US board game media, who each submit up to five games which are then ordered according to ranked-choice vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ATTA&#8217;s committee includes GAMA president and <a href=\"http:\/\/sahmreviews.com\/\">SAHMReviews.com<\/a> founder and owner Nicole Brady, Jessica Fisher, the co-founder of Gameosity and the Tabletop Game Jobs Facebook group, and Good Time Society and Rahdo Runs Through producer Ruel Gaviola, according to its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year&#8217;s ATTA winners were Blob Party, Sea Salt &amp;
