It\u2019s been a meaningful, challenging, and creatively fulfilling chapter in my career.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Placko said she will return to her own company, Turbo Dork, to oversee its next phase of growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added, &#8220;I remain passionate about this industry, but it is time I turn my attention back to the company my husband and I founded together.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Placko took on the CEO role in April 2023, replacing long-time incumbent Phil Reed after almost a decade in the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Big successes during her term as CEO included the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.backerkit.com\/c\/projects\/steve-jackson-games\/munchkin-big-box\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">raising more than $1.3m from over 9,000 backers for the Munchkin Big Box<\/a>, its first campaign on BackerKit after several years and dozens of projects run on Kickstarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"725\" height=\"725\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Munchkin-Big-Box.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4213\" style=\"width:750px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Munchkin-Big-Box.png 725w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Munchkin-Big-Box-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Munchkin-Big-Box-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 725px) 100vw, 725px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Munchkin Big Box from Steve Jackon Games<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year the company brought in TTRPG publisher Possum Creek Games as an imprint, with the company&#8217;s editorial director Jay Dragon becoming Steve Jackson Games&#8217; lead game designer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revenue at SJG was down slightly to $3.5m in 2023, and roughly flat in 2024, with Steve Jackson saying in the company&#8217;s latest annual report a week ago, &#8220;Cash flow was acceptable, but I don&#8217;t feel &#8216;prosperous&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is not just us; individual game sales, industry-wide, were down at both the distribution and retail end, largely due to the glut of titles.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added, &#8220;We are still working the problem, but we have less runway than we did last year!
