{"id":539,"date":"2023-06-20T09:25:08","date_gmt":"2023-06-20T08:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=539"},"modified":"2023-06-22T14:54:04","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T13:54:04","slug":"7-wonders-creator-repos-productions-co-founder-launch-new-publishing-company-playpunk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/20\/7-wonders-creator-repos-productions-co-founder-launch-new-publishing-company-playpunk\/","title":{"rendered":"7 Wonders creator, Repos Productions co-founder launch new publishing company PlayPunk"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgamedesigner\/9714\/antoine-bauza\">Antoine Bauza<\/a>, the veteran designer of games including <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/68448\/7-wonders\">7 Wonders<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/70919\/takenoko\">Takenoko<\/a>, has launched board game publishing company PlayPunk alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rprod.com\/\">Repos Productions<\/a> co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgamedesigner\/9018\/thomas-provoost\">Thomas Provoost<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bauza and Provoost <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PlayPunkStudio\/status\/1671059237726830593?s=20\">officially announced the company this morning<\/a>, almost a year after it began quietly hunting for prototype designs to craft into finished games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PlayPunk said its first game will be Captain Flip from Ethnos and Libertalia designer Paolo Mori and co-designer Remo Conzadori, who previously worked on Amul and Rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The game is described as &#8220;a devilishly clever family game for 2 to 5 players&#8221;, and is expected to hit retail in the first quarter of next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No further details about the game have been revealed yet by PlayPunk, although images from Festival Alchimie du Jeu in Toulouse last month show Provoost demoing a prototype version of a pirate-themed game called Keep or Flip as per the image below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Captain-Flip-Thomas-Provoost-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"PlayPunk co-founder Thomas Provoost shows off a prototype of board game Keep or Flip - now called Captain Flip\" class=\"wp-image-540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Captain-Flip-Thomas-Provoost-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Captain-Flip-Thomas-Provoost-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Captain-Flip-Thomas-Provoost-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Captain-Flip-Thomas-Provoost-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Captain-Flip-Thomas-Provoost.jpeg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>PlayPunk also announced it is working on an &#8220;expert game&#8221; for either two or four player designed by Gregory Grard and Mathieu Roussel, which is earmarked for a release at next year&#8217;s Essen Spiel in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grard designed newly released tile-placement game In The Footsteps of Darwin, and previously worked on set collection card game Kameloot with Roussel in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company&#8217;s Twitter feed shows it has been in discussions with Asmodee about distribution of its games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bauza made a name for himself with Ghost Stories in 2008, before going on to design the widely lauded 7 Wonders in 2011 and Spiel des Jahres winner Hanabi in 2013.
