{"id":5485,"date":"2025-11-27T12:34:23","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T12:34:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=5485"},"modified":"2026-03-16T14:54:34","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T14:54:34","slug":"gama-names-veteran-leadership-consultant-past-lives-regression-hypnotist-zaria-davis-as-interim-executive-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/27\/gama-names-veteran-leadership-consultant-past-lives-regression-hypnotist-zaria-davis-as-interim-executive-director\/","title":{"rendered":"GAMA names veteran leadership consultant, past-lives regression hypnotist Zaria Davis as interim executive director"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Editor\u2019s note: GAMA is one of the sponsors of the BoardGameWire newsletter<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hobby game trade organisation <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?s=gama\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">GAMA<\/a> has brought in leadership consultant Zaria Davis as interim executive director amid its hunt to find a permanent replacement for John Stacy, who left the association last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GAMA, which boasts almost 1,800 members, said Davis would help strengthen its organisational processes, policies and contracts while working to ensure a smooth transition to hiring a new executive director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Davis has spent the last eight years running her leadership, restorative practice and search consultancy business New Direction Coaching &amp; Consulting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is also an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and recently undertook an internship in past life&nbsp;regression hypnosis &#8211; which aims to help people resolve past life traumas and conflicts, or address areas of growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GAMA&#8217;s former executive director John Stacy <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/06\/gamas-executive-director-is-leaving-after-a-transformative-seven-year-tenure-just-as-the-organisation-puts-its-first-ever-10-year-plan-into-operation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">left last month after overseeing what the organisation described as seven \u201ctransformative\u201d years<\/a> &#8211; with the news his contract would not be renewed coming <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/02\/gama-unveils-10-year-plan-to-become-epicenter-of-global-tabletop-gaming-industry-renames-itself-after-almost-50-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">just three weeks after GAMA unveiled ambitious plans to become the \u201cepicenter\u201d of the global tabletop gaming industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GAMA president Nicole Brady previously told BoardGameWire that 10-year plan was part of an attempt to get the organisation away from \u201cplaying whack-a-mole\u201d on issues rather than managing them in a long-term strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The wide-ranging strategy includes GAMA aiming to boost its membership within both hobby games and the mass market, expand itself into a global organisation, shift its finances away from the current heavy reliance on the annual GAMA Expo and Origins shows, and lead the conversation on sustainability within the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brady said the GAMA board was focused on finding the right candidate for its new executive director rather than filling the position quickly &#8211; adding that the organisation expects to announce a permanent appointment in spring next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said, &#8220;GAMA has a team of incredibly talented individuals along with GAMA Vision 2035, a 10-year strategic vision to guide our path. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The board has brought Zaria Davis in as interim executive director to ensure we keep moving forward during this transitional stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;She will be helping the organization build on our existing procedures with a primary objective of ensuring a strong foundation for when we hire the new executive director. We are incredibly excited to tap into Zaria\u2019s knowledge and expertise.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from Davis provided by GAMA said she looked forward to engaging with members, strengthening organizational processes, and advancing GAMA\u2019s mission to support and connect the tabletop game industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interim director hire comes three months after <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/16\/gama-hires-first-coo-reorganises-senior-staff-as-growing-organisation-prepares-to-unveil-inaugural-10-year-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">GAMA brought in its first-ever chief operating officer<\/a> to help manage growing staff numbers at the trade organisation, with Melinda Prickett hired to handle day-to-day operations at the organisation and take some of the workload from the executive director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GAMA also renamed itself for the first time in its almost 50-year history earlier this year, in an attempt to reflect its big push in recent years to better represent professionals from right across the modern tabletop industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organisation \u2013 which will still be legally named The Game Manufacturers Association \u2013 has rebranded to GAMA: The Tabletop Game Association, something it said \u201creinforces GAMA\u2019s commitment to inclusiveness, relevance, and leadership in the tabletop space\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That name change is intended to exhibit GAMA\u2019s shift away from purely representing publishers, retailers and wholesalers into an organisation which also encompasses designers, manufacturers, media, events organisers and third-party service providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Membership of the organisation has grown 55% since the end of 2018, while the industry professionals-focused GAMA Expo trade show has grown from a hotel-based event to a 300,000 sq ft \u201cconvention centre showcase\u201d, with attendance at the event&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/10\/record-gama-expo-attendance-leaves-show-straining-at-the-seams-again-as-drive-to-represent-whole-board-game-industry-continues-trade-bodys-rapid-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than doubling since 2019 to reach 3,420 this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That show <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/01\/gama-picks-baltimore-as-new-home-for-annual-gama-expo-after-trade-event-quickly-outgrows-new-louisville-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">is moving to Baltimore in 2027<\/a> after surging attendance numbers <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/10\/record-gama-expo-attendance-leaves-show-straining-at-the-seams-again-as-drive-to-represent-whole-board-game-industry-continues-trade-bodys-rapid-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">left the event straining at the seams again during this February&#8217;s event<\/a> \u2013 just two years after <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/09\/gama-shifts-2025-expo-dates-after-blowing-past-projections-for-space-needed-signs-one-year-kentucky-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\"
