{"id":5916,"date":"2026-02-12T14:06:16","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T14:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=5916"},"modified":"2026-02-13T09:02:53","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T09:02:53","slug":"cmon-valued-at-more-than-7-5m-through-successful-share-sale-will-put-bulk-of-proceeds-towards-new-game-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/12\/cmon-valued-at-more-than-7-5m-through-successful-share-sale-will-put-bulk-of-proceeds-towards-new-game-development\/","title":{"rendered":"CMON valued at more than $7.5m through successful share sale, will put bulk of proceeds towards game development"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Board game crowdfunding major&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?s=cmon\">CMON<\/a>&nbsp;has secured new capital for game development thanks to a successful share sale, which values the business at more than $7.5m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The much-needed capital raise is the latest move by CMON as it continues its attempt to recover from massive losses racked up over the past two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CMON suffered two failed efforts to bring in new shareholders last year to bolster its working capital, having <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.hkexnews.hk\/listedco\/listconews\/sehk\/2025\/0828\/2025082802784.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">posted losses of nearly $7m<\/a>&nbsp;in the first half of 2025&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/30\/cmons-2024-losses-even-worse-than-it-predicted-at-over-3m-almost-double-its-profits-from-the-last-three-years-combined\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">and another $3m across 2024<\/a> &#8211; figures which dwarfed the overall $4.2m profit it had managed to make&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/21\/new-cmon-profit-warning-says-losses-could-reach-8m-for-first-half-of-2025-almost-three-times-its-overall-profit-from-the-last-ten-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over the previous nine years combined<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new share sale sees six extra shareholders come into the business, holding a combined 16.66% of the company &#8211; and gives CMON a valuation more than 50% higher <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/11\/cmon-share-sale-to-raise-company-funds-falls-through-for-the-second-time-this-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">than that expected through the failed share placement from two months ago<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CMON <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.hkexnews.hk\/listedco\/listconews\/sehk\/2026\/0212\/2026021201116.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said in a stock exchange filing<\/a> that more than half of the HK$9.4m ($1.2m) proceeds would go towards game development, including prototype design, content development and artwork creation, while another HK$2.35m would be used for marketing and events, including participation in trade fairs and promotional campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company has been scrambling to stem growing losses since the start of last year by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/24\/cmon-announces-layoffs-pauses-future-game-development-and-new-crowdfunding-due-to-us-tariffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">laying off staff, halting new game development and campaign launches<\/a>, and&nbsp;selling off a string of its biggest IPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those IP sales have included Blood Rage, Rising Sun and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/10\/asmodee-buys-zombicide-ip-from-struggling-cmon-as-first-move-in-new-acquisition-spree\/\">its most famous and profitable title<\/a>,&nbsp;Zombicide, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/20\/asmodee-continues-push-into-crowdfunding-by-buying-cthulhu-death-may-die-series-from-struggling-cmon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cthulhu: Death May Die<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/27\/mythic-games-fails-to-deliver-on-two-kickstarter-projects-worth-3-2m-sells-ip-to-cmon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">former Mythic Games<\/a>&nbsp;titles&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/10\/cmon-continues-battle-against-heavy-losses-by-selling-on-recently-acquired-hel-anastyr-ips-to-dont-panic-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anastyr and Hel: The Last Saga<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"504\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/CMON-Zombicide-2nd-Edition-03-13-2025_01_54_PM-1024x504.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4043\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/CMON-Zombicide-2nd-Edition-03-13-2025_01_54_PM-1024x504.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/CMON-Zombicide-2nd-Edition-03-13-2025_01_54_PM-300x148.jpg 300w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/CMON-Zombicide-2nd-Edition-03-13-2025_01_54_PM-768x378.jpg 768w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/CMON-Zombicide-2nd-Edition-03-13-2025_01_54_PM.jpg 1276w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Zombicide 2nd Edition<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>CMON announced towards the end of last month <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/26\/cmon-exploring-more-ip-sales-after-heavy-losses-as-it-pushes-to-get-14m-of-undelivered-crowdfunding-campaigns-to-backers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">that more IP sales could be on the way<\/a>, alongside making an apology for delays to its outstanding crowdfunds \u2013 some of which are now running almost two years beyond initial delivery estimates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s remaining significant IP includes the Massive Darkness series, with the most recent installment, Massive Darkness: Dungeons of Shadowreach,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gamefound.com\/en\/projects\/cmon\/massivedarkness-shadowreach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">completing a $2.85m crowdfund on Gamefound early last year<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 a figure which rose to more than $3.7m including late pledges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CMON&#8217;s eight undelivered campaigns include DC Super Heroes United,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gamefound.com\/en\/projects\/cmon\/dc-heroes-united\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">which raised more than $4.4m<\/a>, and DCeased,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/cmon\/dceased-zombicide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">which brought in over $2.5m<\/a>.
