{"id":610,"date":"2023-06-21T09:28:38","date_gmt":"2023-06-21T08:28:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=610"},"modified":"2023-06-21T09:35:02","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T08:35:02","slug":"troubled-embracer-group-using-asmodee-ips-for-more-than-20-in-development-video-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/21\/troubled-embracer-group-using-asmodee-ips-for-more-than-20-in-development-video-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Troubled Embracer Group using Asmodee IPs for more than 20 video game projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tomb Raider and Borderlands developer <a href=\"https:\/\/embracer.com\/\">Embracer Group<\/a>\u00a0is planning a slew of video games based on <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.asmodee.com\/\">Asmodee<\/a>&#8216;s board game range, as the company tries to leverage its intellectual property amid plans to slash its $1.45bn of debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Embracer, which bought Asmodee for \u20ac2.75bn last year, said in its latest annual report this morning that it has identified 25 video game projects which will use the tabletop gaming major&#8217;s IPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Details of specific games in development were not revealed, although the company&#8217;s Year In Brief report used Exploding Kittens and Werewolves of Miller&#8217;s Hollow to illustrate the section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asmodee publishes board games under 22 subsidiaries including Catan Studio, Days of Wonder, Fantasy Flight Games, Lookout Games and Z-Men Games, with its biggest IPs including Ticket to Ride, Catan, Splendor, 7 Wonders, Azul, Dobble\/Spot It! and Star Wars: Legion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Embracer also said Asmodee had &#8220;identified multiple areas for collaboration&#8221; with stablemate Dark Horse Comics, relating to novels, comics, merchandising and &#8220;media development&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/13\/asmodee-owner-embracer-group-to-make-layoffs-to-help-tackle-1-5bn-debt-pile\/\">Embracer revealed plans to shutter video games studios and let go some of its 17,000 staff<\/a> as part of a restructuring program aimed at cutting into its $1.45bn debt pile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company said it would shift from \u201cheavy-investment-mode\u201d to become \u201ca highly cash-flow generative business this year\u201d, putting an end to a years-long acquisition spree which included the \u20ac2.75bn takeover of Asmodee in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asmodee is a huge part of Embracer&#8217;s business, rivalling its PC and Console segment for overall sales.
