{"id":6407,"date":"2026-04-10T09:54:50","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T08:54:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=6407"},"modified":"2026-04-10T13:28:39","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T12:28:39","slug":"asmodee-co-founder-philippe-mouret-veteran-catan-studio-head-pete-fenlon-step-back-julia-marcelin-to-head-up-five-studios","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/10\/asmodee-co-founder-philippe-mouret-veteran-catan-studio-head-pete-fenlon-step-back-julia-marcelin-to-head-up-five-studios\/","title":{"rendered":"Asmodee co-founder Philippe Mouret, veteran Catan Studio head Pete Fenlon step back; Julia Marcelin to head up five studios"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?s=asmodee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Asmodee<\/a> co-founder Philippe Mouret and Catan Studio head Pete Fenlon have both stepped back from their high-level roles at the board game giant, with Julia Marcelin and Mike Bisogno stepping up to oversee some of its biggest-selling titles as part of the leadership transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mouret, who co-founded Asmodee more than 30 years ago, was also behind the creation of Splendor publisher Space Cowboys in 2014, and has overseen multiple publishing studios at the business over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Julia Marcelin, who has been with Asmodee for almost seven years, becomes head of five studios as part of the shake-up, taking on responsibility for Days of Wonder, Space Cowboys, Repos Production, Libellud and Next Move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those studios are the home of <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/12\/board-game-arena-boost-has-helped-splendor-games-surge-to-three-million-sales\/\">some of Asmodee&#8217;s best-selling titles<\/a>, including <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/18\/asmodee-unveils-ticket-to-ride-netflix-deal-in-ongoing-push-to-get-its-best-selling-games-onto-the-big-screen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Ticket to Ride<\/a>, Memoir 44, Splendor, 7 Wonders and Dixit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marcelin has spent the last year working with Mouret as deputy head of studio in preparation for the transition, Asmodee said, following previous responsibilities in operational strategy and international transformation at the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from Asmodee said Mouret had &#8220;played a defining role in shaping the company\u2019s creative direction&#8221;, as well as &#8220;contributed to the development and creation of some of the industry\u2019s most celebrated titles&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company said Mouret would &#8220;remain closely involved&#8221; with its publishing team, working alongside chief product officer Jean-S\u00e9bastien De Barros and senior vice president for tabletop Benoit Clerc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asmodee also revealed that Pete Fenlon has stepped down as head of Catan Studio after ten years, with his LinkedIn page now updated to place him as &#8220;storyteller&#8221; and &#8220;mentor at large&#8221; at the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"341\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Pete-Fenlon-Asmodee-Catan-Studio.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6411\" style=\"width:400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Pete-Fenlon-Asmodee-Catan-Studio.png 341w, https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Pete-Fenlon-Asmodee-Catan-Studio-300x277.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 341px) 100vw, 341px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Former Catan Studio head Pete Fenlon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike Bisogno, who joined Asmodee three months ago after more than 17 years at Spin Master, takes on the role. He was most recently senior director of design and inventor relations at Spin Master, and also previously worked as a licensing lead at the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catan is one of Asmodee&#8217;s most powerful titles, <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/04\/catan-follows-netflix-deal-with-minnesota-timberwolves-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">having successfully broken out from the hobby board gaming space and into wider pop culture<\/a> since its 1995 release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The game has sold more than 45 million copies and been translated into over 40 languages to date. Asmodee announced a 6th edition of the game last year to coincide with the title\u2019s 30th anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from Asmodee said, &#8220;Mike combines creative leadership with a strong track record of building successful partnerships. href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2024\/11\/21\/acquisitions-are-back-at-asmodee-as-board-game-giant-eyes-more-than-20-buyout-targets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">the reignited acquisitions strategy it announced at the end of 2024<\/a>, with last month&#8217;s agreement <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/26\/asmodee-to-pay-up-to-e250m-to-buy-french-party-social-game-publisher-atm-gaming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">to pay up to \u20ac250m for French social and party game publisher&nbsp;ATM Gaming<\/a> its most striking deal to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board game giant said buying ATM, the publisher of titles including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/419421\/slingz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Speed Bac\/Quickstop<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/454730\/mouton-mouton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mouton Mouton<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/453584\/pili-pili\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pili Pili<\/a>, was predicated on social games being \u201cthe fastest growing category of the board games market\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ATM deal followed five other acquisitions from the past 12 months \u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/20\/asmodee-makes-asia-expansion-push-by-buying-cmons-japon-brand-launching-new-studio-nekuma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">including the buyout of Japon Brand from CMON<\/a>, anchoring the board game giant\u2019s push into a \u201ccurrently untapped market\u201d for the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its other recent deals include&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/10\/asmodee-buys-zombicide-ip-from-struggling-cmon-as-first-move-in-new-acquisition-spree\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">picking up Zombicide<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/20\/asmodee-continues-push-into-crowdfunding-by-buying-cthulhu-death-may-die-series-from-struggling-cmon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cthulhu: Death May Die<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/20\/asmodee-continues-acquisition-of-cmon-titles-with-sheriff-of-nottingham-purchase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sheriff of Nottingham<\/a>&nbsp;from CMON,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/26\/cmon-exploring-more-ip-sales-after-heavy-losses-as-it-pushes-to-get-14m-of-undelivered-crowdfunding-campaigns-to-backers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">which is attempting to recover from heavy losses over the past couple of years<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asmodee&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/23\/asmodee-seals-record-quarterly-net-sales-despite-23-us-slump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">posted record sales of \u20ac524m during the last quarter of 2025<\/a>&nbsp;despite a slump in its US performance, with trading card game earnings in Europe acting as a driving force for the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div
