{"id":705,"date":"2023-07-10T16:08:18","date_gmt":"2023-07-10T15:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/?p=705"},"modified":"2023-09-21T09:39:29","modified_gmt":"2023-09-21T08:39:29","slug":"carnegie-weather-machine-among-five-games-battling-it-out-for-portugals-game-of-the-year-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2023\/07\/10\/carnegie-weather-machine-among-five-games-battling-it-out-for-portugals-game-of-the-year-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Carnegie, Weather Machine among five games battling it out for Portugal&#8217;s game of the year award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamewire.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/09\/heat-pedal-to-the-metal-cat-in-the-box-lead-boardgamegeek-golden-geek-award-winners\/\">Golden Geek heavy game of the year winner Carnegie<\/a> is looking to add to its titles after being nominated alongside four other games for Spiel Portugal&#8217;s game of the year awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The economic strategy game, which is based around the life of industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, is up against <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/351913\/tiletum\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"\">Tiletum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/237179\/weather-machine\">Weather Machine<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/348450\/lacrimosa\">Lacrimosa<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/345868\/federation\">Federation<\/a> for the prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carnegie is easily the highest ranked of the five on BoardGameGeek at #124, but all five games have ratings on the site between 7.8 and 8.1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Weather Machine designer Vital Lacerda won the Jogo do Ano in 2018 with Lisboa, while Tiletum co-designer Simone Luciani was truimphant alongside Tommaso Battista with Barrage in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year&#8217;s winner was train-based economic strategy game Imperial Steam from Alexander Huemer, beating big name competitor Ark Nova to the gong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three games with Imperial in the title have won the award in its 16-year existence, with Mac Gerdts&#8217; Imperial taking the top prize in the inaugural 2007 competition and Imperial Struggle winning in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jogo de Ano committee chief Carlos Ferreira told BoardGameWire the winner is expected to be announced at the end of September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Previous Jogo do Ano winners:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2022 &#8211;
