Oink Games has printed more than 300,000 copies of Deep Sea Adventure; company announces new edition

Japanese board game publisher Oink Games has revealed its submarine treasure-hunting game Deep Sea Adventure has now been printed more than 300,000 times – and a new edition is coming later this year.

Oink first released Deep Sea Adventure a decade ago, with the small box game gaining traction globally in the wake of the success of fellow Japanese design Love Letter.

Deep Sea Adventure Boost

Co-designer Jun Sasaki, who also created small box sensation A Fake Artist Goes to New York, said in a 2021 interview that prior to the release of those two designs, “I was always told that our games were too expensive for small box games. These days, people say they love the size of our games, and that makes me happy. I think that more and more people are starting to see value in what we make.”

That has included big chain retailers such as Target, which launched its own edition of Oink’s Spiel des Jahres nominee Scout earlier this year.

Oink said the new edition of Deep Sea Adventure, which it will show off at Spiel Essen in October, features tweaked rules and new components

Souvenirs from Venice

The company will also release Souvenirs from Venice this Autumn – the first game since 2014’s Deep Sea Adventure co-designed by Jun Sasaki and Goro Sasaki.

The game sees players rolling dice to move their gondolas through the city of Venice looking for souvenirs, aiming to collect enough of the rarest and make it back to the airport befor their plane leaves.
