Copyright & Republishing Policy
BoardGameWire invests significant time and resources in original journalism covering the international board game industry, including interviews, investigations, analysis and reporting based on information obtained directly from industry sources.
We welcome other publications reporting on news first uncovered by BoardGameWire. However, our articles and other original content are protected by copyright and may not be reproduced, republished or adapted without permission except where permitted by law.
Copyright and intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, copyright and other intellectual property rights in original material published on BoardGameWire belong to BoardGameWire and/or Mike Didymus-True. All such rights are asserted and reserved.
© BoardGameWire / Mike Didymus-True. All rights reserved.
Mike Didymus-True asserts his right under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 to be identified as the author of his work.
Except where permitted by applicable law, or with our prior written permission, BoardGameWire content may not be copied, reproduced, republished, distributed, translated, adapted, systematically extracted, stored in another website or electronic retrieval system, or used to create derivative works.
This includes reproducing or adapting substantial parts of BoardGameWire articles while making alterations to their wording or structure.
Personal use
You may print or download reasonable extracts from BoardGameWire for your own personal, non-commercial use, provided that:
- the material is not modified;
- BoardGameWire’s copyright and attribution notices are retained; and
- photographs, graphics and other material are not separated from their accompanying context where doing so would misrepresent their origin or ownership.
This permission does not grant a right to republish BoardGameWire material on another website, publication, newsletter, app, social media account, database or other service.
Reporting news first published by BoardGameWire
BoardGameWire does not claim copyright ownership over facts or news events simply because we reported them first. Other journalists and publications are welcome to independently report and follow up on stories broken by BoardGameWire.
However, where reporting relies on information first obtained and published through BoardGameWire’s original journalism – particularly exclusive interviews, comments obtained from sources, investigations or previously unpublished information – BoardGameWire should be clearly identified as the source and the original article should be linked.
For example:
“Asmodee told BoardGameWire…”
or:
“According to reporting by BoardGameWire…”
A link alone, without making clear that BoardGameWire was the source of the reporting, may not provide readers with sufficient context about where the information originated.
Interviews and original reporting
Statements made to BoardGameWire during interviews form part of BoardGameWire’s original reporting.
Quotations or information obtained through a BoardGameWire interview should not be presented in a way that suggests another publication conducted the interview or obtained the information independently.
Substantial reproduction, close paraphrasing or adaptation of a BoardGameWire interview or article requires prior permission from BoardGameWire.
Quotations and excerpts
Reasonable quotation of BoardGameWire journalism for purposes such as news reporting, criticism, review or discussion is welcome where permitted by applicable law. However, BoardGameWire should be clearly credited and, for online use, the original article should be linked.
This does not extend to reproducing substantial portions of an article, assembling excerpts which reproduce the substance of an article, closely rewriting or paraphrasing substantial parts of an article, or otherwise creating a substitute for the original BoardGameWire work – if you wish to make more extensive use of BoardGameWire material, please contact us for permission.
Republishing complete articles
BoardGameWire articles may not be republished in full or substantially in full without prior written permission.
This applies to websites, newsletters, apps, social media accounts, print publications, databases, aggregation services and other forms of publication, including translated or adapted versions.
If you are interested in licensing, syndicating or republishing BoardGameWire journalism, please contact us to discuss permission.
Automated and AI-assisted use
The use of automated or AI-assisted tools does not alter the copyright status of BoardGameWire content or remove the need to appropriately identify the source of original reporting.
Except where permitted by applicable law or expressly authorised by BoardGameWire, BoardGameWire content may not be systematically scraped, extracted, reproduced, translated, adapted, rewritten or republished using automated or AI-assisted systems.
BoardGameWire content may not be used through automated means to produce articles or other material which substantially reproduce, closely paraphrase, summarise or act as a substitute for BoardGameWire’s original journalism.
Where a publication uses automated or AI-assisted tools to produce coverage derived from information first reported by BoardGameWire, BoardGameWire should still be clearly identified and linked as the source of that reporting.
Enforcement
We recognise that attribution may occasionally be missed inadvertently and will normally seek to resolve such issues directly with the publication concerned.
Where BoardGameWire identifies unauthorised reproduction or substantial use of its copyrighted material, we may request attribution, amendment, removal or other appropriate action depending on the circumstances.
Repeated or substantial unauthorised use may result in further action to protect BoardGameWire’s intellectual property rights.
