Star Realms publisher Wise Wizard launches family-weight imprint with trio of games
Wise Wizard Games, the publisher of award-winning spaceship combat deck-building game Star Realms, has launched a family-focused imprint called Wacky Wizard Games.
Wacky Wizard has revealed a trio of lightweight games which it will launch in 2024, including a kid-focused version of Star Realms called Star Realms Academy.
The label also plans to publish fast-paced party game Caution Signs, from Boop! creator Scott Brady and Her Story designer Danielle Reynolds, and Pack The Essentials, a polyomino cat-arranging game from new designer Jacqueline Atkins.
Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games, said, “We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog.
“We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe.”
Scott Brady, co-designer of Caution Signs, added, “While we’re still many, many months away from Caution Signs hitting retail shelves, it has been satisfying to see the enthusiasm of everyone at Wise Wizard as they bring it to market.
“It can be difficult to find a publisher who handles your ‘baby’ as carefully as we designers do.”
The Wise Wizard Games side of the business continues to thrive, the firm said, with the company now having raised more than $6m in crowdfunding.
Its current campaign, Star Realms Deluxe: Colonial Collection, has raised more than $157,000 from about 1,400 backers to date, with eight days of the campaign to go.
Wise Wizard said Hero Realms Dungeons, Sorcerer Endbringer and the Star Realms Rise of Empire legacy game are planned for retail release next year.
The company, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, was called White Wizard Games until a rebrand in 2021 – a nod to Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings.
