Dice Tower production manager Roy Cannaday leaves after success of Last Light design “opens up new opportunities”
Roy Cannaday, the production manager for board game review behemoth The Dice Tower, has left the company following the success of his tabletop game design Last Light.
Cannaday has spent more than five years editing and producing YouTube content and live streams for The Dice Tower, and was already a familiar face with viewers prior to that after several years as a contributor via his Epic Gaming Night YouTube channel.
Speaking to BoardGameWire, Cannaday said the success of Last Light – which has raised about $1m across a pair of crowdfunding campaigns since late 2022 – had “opened up new opportunities” for his future in the industry.
He said, “I do have designs in various stages in the hands of publishers, but no announcements that I can make yet.
“And I will always be working on future things for Last Light with Grey Fox Games. The second edition printing of the deluxe version should be coming to backers super soon.”
He added, “I loved my time at the Dice Tower. We definitely had tons of amazing adventures spreading the love of board gaming together.
“And I’m super excited for new opportunities to pursue my passions. I’m stoked to see so much support from our following over the years and the excitement around my future endeavors.”
The Dice Tower, which has more than 340,000 subscribers on YouTube, is yet to mention Cannaday’s departure in one of its videos, but a written statement posted to its channel said, “We wish him nothing but the best in his new endeavors.
“He has done so much to help the Dice Tower grow in his time here, both behind the scenes and in the public eye, that we know he will do amazing things in his new pursuits.
“Show him some support and love. Thank you for everything, Roy!”
Last Light is a 4x space-themed game with a rotating board, which aims to provide a similar experience to more time-intensive 4x games while clocking in at under an hour.
So far the game has received a single expansion, Last Light: Infinity, which adds new alien races and components for up to eight players.
