BoardGameGeek founder, Magic the Gathering creator among board game industry professionals teaming up to support Kamala Harris presidential campaign

A host of board game industry professionals have lent their support to a 750-strong group of gaming and puzzle specialists endorsing Kamala Harris in her bid to become President of the United States.

BoardGameGeek founder Scott Alden, Magic the Gathering creator Richard Garfield and Stonemaier Games co-founder Jamey Stegmaier are all among the collection of designers, publishers, artists and writers from across tabletop and video gaming to back the Gamers4Harris campaign.

Other backers include Gen Con board chairperson Peter Adkison, Alderac owner John Zinser and COO Ryan Dancey, Pandemic designer Matt Leacock, Eagle Gryphon Games CEO Randal Lloyd, Unpub director Tuesday Badell, Asmadi Games owner Chris Cieslik and Votes for Women designer Tory Brown.

A statement from Gamers4Harris on behalf of its hundreds of supporters said, “We make games because we like competition and cooperation. We’ve been given two candidates who express those qualities beautifully.”

The statement adds, “Kamala Harris is a winner. She has presided over the best economy in the world. She’s an ardent defender of reproductive rights.

“She has battled crime, fought for the downtrodden, and supported American workers. She stands with our allies and stands up to our enemies abroad. She knows how things are done and she gets them done.”

Writing about Harris and running mate Tim Walz’s Republican opposition, Donald Trump and JD Vance, the group says, “Trump and Vance are what we despise: cheaters. They run on fear, rage, and denial of rights.

“Everything out of their mouths is horrible: ‘They’re eating the dogs.’ ‘Childless cat ladies.’ ‘Suspend the Constitution.’ It’s the worst. And their policies are even worse.

“Project 2025 spells out a fascist agenda that will destroy the government and the rights of Americans.

“Trump is an insurrectionist grifter who’s been found liable for sexual assault, convicted of fraud, fined hundreds of millions of dollars, and is facing years in jail. Not our kind of guy at all.”

The campaign is urging other game industry professionals to vote, volunteer and donate money for the Harris/Walz ticket ahead of the election on November 5.

  1. Pioneer was the funniest format out there commander sucks. It’s a perversion on the game. Standard sucks. And I agree modern kind of got a bit perverse too, but not supporting pioneer will likely make me burn my cards. I would sell them back to the community, but by doing that I would be supporting wizards. I’ve been playing this game for 30 years and all they do is raise the power creep Band the cards they just created(oko & many more) & so players go out of their way to make the game fun again by creating new blocks that wizards just gets rid of . So when will they they stop supporting commander ? who wants a five-year standard? They’re trading one block for another what was great about the game was playing in person touching the cards trading TCG after all & with online we don’t get any of that you pay for the card and then don’t own it. When are they going to stop supporting online? There’s been many formats they’ve stopped supporting. This is kind of their MO. And they’re taking away The best parts of the game for selfish reasons they should be encouraging all blocks as it’s good for the entire ecosystem of the game, I seriously might quit over this
